Driving through the suburb of Hanoi toward an apartment block built in 1980. The old yellow-painted apartment buildings with caged balconies have been the eternal symbol of the capital. Many generations have been living in those buildings and everyone knows each other. Let’s explore another part of Hanoi which is full of exciting surprises hidden in its small and modest appearance.

EVENING LOCAL LIFE OVER HOME HOSTED DINNER

18:00 – 18:30 pm

The old apartment buildings, usually with five stories, remarked the first stage of the construction of the new socialist country, becoming not only a witness of the history and architecture of a period but also a symbol of the neighbourhood and community culture and life. You might see some kids sliding on old stairs, lines of clothes hanging on the balcony, plant and flower pots appearing behind bars of iron cages, or elders playing chess in the public ground.

18:30 – 19:30 pm

Meeting with a local family living in one of these old apartment buildings for more than 30 years. Engage in a casual chat with the host about his life experience before and after the reunification in 1975 and his family’s lifestyle.

19:30 – 20:30 pm

Chance to share a meal with the local host and understand each other’s cultures and traditions. Stories continue around the table, over authentic Hanoian food prepared by his wife.

20:30 – 21:00 pm

After the meal, together with the host, flipping through his family’s photo albums and some historical images from the wartime that the host experienced. Bid farewell to the friendly host’s family. Drive back to your hotel.
