Discover the highlights of Hanoi on this half-day city tour, beginning with a brief orientation drive through the capital’s most iconic districts. Admire the city’s broad, tree-lined avenues and impressive French colonial architecture, including the elegant Hanoi Opera House. Pass by Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as the Lake of the Restored Sword, one of Hanoi’s most cherished landmarks and a focal point of local life.

 

Continue to the Temple of Literature, a peaceful oasis amid the bustling city. Founded in 1070, it is recognized as Vietnam’s first national university and remains one of the country’s most important historical and cultural sites. Visitors can explore its beautifully preserved courtyards, traditional architecture, and tranquil gardens while learning about Vietnam’s long-standing tradition of scholarship and education.

The tour then proceeds to the Museum of Ethnology (closed on Mondays), offering a fascinating introduction to Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. Inside the museum, guests can view traditional costumes, cultural artifacts, and exhibits that illustrate the unique customs and lifestyles of each community. The outdoor exhibition area features full-scale replicas of traditional ethnic houses from different regions of Vietnam, providing further insight into the country’s rich cultural diversity.

Conclude the experience with a traditional cyclo ride through the maze-like streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. As the oldest continuously developed area of the city, the Old Quarter was once a thriving commercial center where each street specialized in a particular trade or guild. Today, it remains one of Hanoi’s most vibrant neighborhoods, filled with local shops, street vendors, and historic architecture. Along the way, stop at a roadside café to enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee, interact with local residents, and observe the rhythm of daily life in the capital.

Remarks: The Museum of Ethnology is closed on Mondays. On these days, the Vietnamese Women’s Museum will be visited as an alternative. Cyclo services are unavailable during the Tet Holiday period and will be replaced by an electric buggy.
