In the 16th century, the ancient town of Hoi An was one of the major trading centers of Southeast Asia and was
declared a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999. Hoi An has a distinctive Chinese atmosphere with narrow streets
and colorful houses decorated with lacquer panels engraved with Chinese characters. Originally a harbour for the
Cham city at My Son, the town became a trading port for Chinese, Japanese and European traders, reaching its
peak during the 17th century. The different influences on this riverside town over the centuries have resulted in an
eclectic mix of architectural styles, ranging from Chinese assembly halls to grand merchants’ houses to French
colonial villas.

In the late afternoon, Hoi An’s bustling harbor comes to life as local fishermen prepare to embark on a long and
arduous night of fishing in the Cua Dai Sea. From your vantage point on the Thu Bon River, you can witness the
fleet of colorful boats passing by as they head out to sea. For those feeling adventurous, there
’s the chance to try
paddling a traditional Vietnamese coracle boat. However, moving these vessels along the river requires a special
technique and local assistance may be necessary. Once back on your main boat, relax with a cold drink in hand and
admire the breathtaking orange glow of the setting sun over this stunning backdrop.
