Sapa is a town in the Lao Cai Province in northwestern Vietnam. Nestled in the Hoang Lien Son mountains, Sapa is known for its stunning natural scenery, including rice terraces, mountains, and valleys. The town is also home to a variety of ethnic minority groups, including the H’mong, Dzao, and Tay. Sapa is a popular tourist destination, especially for trekking and hiking. 

FULL DAY SUNDAY MARKET AT BAC HA (8,5 HOURS) 

The vibrant weekly markets in and around Sapa are all the more colorful with the presence of so many of the different ethnic minorities living in the region. On market day, hill tribe people from outlying villages, resplendent in their traditional headdresses, gather to buy and sell their wares and catch up on30 the latest gossip. 

The drive from Sapa downtown to this market takes 2.5- hour one way. At the bustling Sunday Bac Ha market, you are likely to find Hmong, Phu La, Back Dao, Tay, and Nung tribes gathering to sell their homemade products. Traveling via Lao Cai and across Bao Nhai bridge, you will reach the town of Bac Ha. Explore one of the region’s largest markets just on Sundays.

Following lunch at a local eatery, head out of town towards Lao Cai, stopping on the way to take a short walk through Trung Do village, home of the Tay people. According to tradition, Tay villages are always built at the foot of a mountain or along a stream and take their name from a nearby mountain, a field, or a river. Each village contains about 15 to 20 households and larger villages are divided into small hamlets with houses built either on stilts or on the ground. Visit a Tay house for a cup of tea before taking a boat trip along the scenic River Chay. Disembark the boat at Coc Ly, your vehicle awaits to transfer hotel. (Remark: 2 hourwalking).
