Founded as a royal city in 1687 (the original citadel city of Phu Xuan was built on the same site), Huế is your gateway to the treasures of Vietnam’s royal past. Legacies of the city’s dynastic past are everywhere and keep visitors busy with visits to elaborate tombs and pagodas, mausoleums and assembly halls. Threaded along the beautiful Perfume River which flows through the city, the unique and extraordinary monuments serve as a guide to the lives of Vietnam’s last emperors.

Besides the outstanding historic landmarks like royal citadel, imperial tombs and ancient pagodas, Hue offer peaceful countryside resting a number of traditional villages. Discover Thanh Toan village by cycling to gain a unique insight into local life as well as the well preserved tile roofed bridge.

Today’s half day cycling tour affords the opportunity to explore the rural countryside surrounding Hue. Leaving the former Royal Capital and passing small hamlets and verdant rice fields (seasonal), your leisurely bike ride of approximately 9km one way will bring you to Thanh Toan, a quintessential
Vietnamese village with a picturesque covered Japanese-style bridge built during the reign of Emperor Le Hien Tong in the mid-18th century.

Your guide will explain the history behind the bridge plus there will be time to visit the village’s small museum, interact with the local population and rest awhile before heading back to the city via the same route later in the day.
